Our Day

8:45–9:00 Arrival and settling in
9:00–12:00 Morning work cycle
12:00–1:30 Lunch and outdoor time
1:30–2:30 Afternoon work period
2:30-3:00 cleaning, music
3:00 Dismissal

The heart of our program is the morning work cycle, or “Great Period”: a hallmark of Montessori classrooms. From 9:00–12:00, learners engage in sustained, self-directed work within the prepared environment. This uninterrupted block allows for deep concentration, peer collaboration, and meaningful follow-through. We protect this time carefully, which is why we ask that learners arrive no later than 9:00 am.

Afternoons are optional, and include continued project work, reading, handwork, and small group lessons. When weather allows, outdoor time may extend longer and the afternoon work period may shorten accordingly.

Families can sign their learners up for as few as three full days per week and up to five days per week. Families can choose which weekdays they would like their children to attend. We ask for two weeks’ notice if you would like to add or remove days so that we can plan accordingly.

Daylily

Stargazer’s first spring and summer will function as a pilot period. During this season, we are establishing rhythms, deepening the work, and learning alongside the families who choose to begin with us.

Rather than a traditional admissions process built on brief tours or secondhand impressions, we invite children to spend real time in the environment. This allows families to make decisions based on lived experience, and allows us to grow the community with care.

Because this is a working program with limited capacity, participation during the pilot period is offered through prepaid attendance days.

Calendar

We at Stargazer are excited to offer a year round education for your child. As a supplemental homeschool program we understand that learning is always happening in every environment and our choose your own days approach allows for a more flexible education approach that can be sustained year round. We also understand that many families go on vacation and have trips, traditions, and travel. Our year-round program can easily accommodate your family's calendar.

Spring/Summer 2026

Through summer 2026 (defined according to the Portland Public Schools calendar), attendance will be fully optional. Families may choose to enroll for those months, or to join for a few days to get a better sense of the program through our Daylily package
